Befrienders
We need people who are good at listening, patient, and like people. Befriending can either involve friendly visitors who visit someone in their own home, spending an hour with them each week; or it can be telephone befrienders. People who are befriended are often quite lonely, isolated, and housebound and visits from befrienders can brighten up their whole week. So come and join us, and help improve someone’s life by just being there.
Volunteer Car Drivers
Can you drive? Do you have some spare time? Help provide transport to activities. Driver opportunities vary from providing transport on an ad hoc basis to a regular commitment to weekly activities. Applicants should be car owners, with a full driving license, in good health and be prepared to transport service users in their own car.
IT Support
Having the patience and communication skills to support an older person get to grips with modern technology has proved to be even more valuable during the last 18 months of living with COVID-19.
Group support
MAECare has various activities at which volunteers assist such as making tea and coffees, chatting to older people so that everyone feels welcome and engaged, sometimes delivering an activity. Contact us to get involved – you can give as much or as little time as you like.
Examples of Groups where volunteers can help (see newsletter for full details)
Knit and Natter – Thursday every week
CAMEO – Tuesday once a month
Office support
Volunteers who are happy to help out in our office by answering the phone, with mailouts, and ideally with computer skills are always needed.
Offer something new
We are always keen to hear new ideas and gain new skills. Volunteers with MAECare teach computer skills, lead activities and fundraise.
